Jason Siemion is the 2004 and first recipient of the William L.
Wilson Memorial Scholarship (WLWMS) for karst and geology studies. Mr.
Siemion holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, 2002, from the
State University of New York (SUNY), College of Environmental Science
and Forestry. He is currently a Masters of Geology candidate in the
Hydrology Program, SUNY at Oneonta. He is studying under Arthur Palmer,
Director of the Water Resources Program and professor at SUNY.
Mr. Siemion’s topic is a determining the groundwater characteristics
of selected karst aquifers in eastern New York using three
techniques—analysis of radium isotopes, interpretation of dissolved
solids and quantitative dye tracing.
Recommendations include his involvement in the local caving
community, his efficient fieldwork with attention to detail using good
science and in an efficient manner.
We are happy to award this first scholarship to such a dedicated
